SCHEMATIC APPLICATIONS
The TVS low capacit ance device confi guration is shown in Figure 4. As a furt her option for unidirect ional applic ations, an additional
low capacitance rectifier diode may be used in parallel in the same polarity direction as the TVS as shown in Figure 5. In
applications where random high voltage transients occur, this will prevent reverse transients from damaging the internal low
capacitanc e rectifier diode and al so provide a low voltage c onducting direction. The added rec tifier diode should be of s imi lar low
capacitance and also have a higher reverse voltage rating than the TVS clamping voltage VC
. The Microsemi recommended
rectifier part number f or the application in Figure 5 i s the “SMBJLCR80” or “SMBGLCR80” dependin g on the terminal c onfiguration
desired. I f using two (2) lo w capacit ance TVS devices in ant i-parallel for bidi rectional appl ications, this added protect ive feature for
both direct ions (including the reverse of each rect ifier diode) is inherently provided in Figure 6. The unidi rectional and bidirectional
configurat i ons in Figure 5 and 6 will both result in twice the capacitance of Figure 4.
