Comparison Between Glass Plate
Beamsplitter and a Pellicle Beamsplitter
PELLICLES
BEAM
GLASS
A pellicle beamsplitter is a high tensile strength elastic membrane,
stretched like a drumhead over a black anodized flat metal frame,
and bonded to the precision lapped edge.
$There is virtually no ghosting because the thinness of the
beamsplitter provides a separation between primary and
ghost image of less than 4 µm at 45º.
$Chromatic and spherical aberration are negligible in
converging beams.
$Low absorption across the visible spectrum. Nitrocellulose
material does exhibit some absorption in the ultraviolet and
in the infrared beyond 2 µm.
$There is no change in the optical path.
$Coatings are available to provide various beamsplitting
ratios. See table and figure for coating curves and suffixes.

To order, select pellicle and append coating suffix from graphs on the next page.
Cleaning and Handling
Pellicle surfaces must not be touched. Clean
only with a gentle flow of clean, dry air.
